Lightning Send Lundin To Norfolk, Recall Smaby
The Lightning have reassigned defenseman Mike Lundin to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL, Executive Vice President and GM Brian Lawton announced today.
Defenseman Matt Smaby was also recalled from his conditioning assignment.
Only One Mike To Make Team Canada?
Senators center Mike Fisher has played well enough to get consideration for Team Canada.
However, the Ottawa Sun points out that he's unlikely to make the squad due to the presence of Flyers center Mike Richards.
"They're basically the same player and they're likely going to take a guy like Richards ahead of Fisher," said a league executive.
Sundin Could Have Future As Executive
Mats Sundin isn't going to play in the NHL again, but his days in hockey might not be over.
Sundin, 38, announced his retirement prior to the start of the season.
"He is taking his time (contemplating his future)," Sundin's Sweden-based agent, Claes Elefalk, told the Ottawa Sun.
Avs Activate Foote, Hendricks; Place Cumiskey On IR, Waive Preissing
The Avalanche announced today that the team has activated defenseman Adam Foote and forward Matt Hendricks from the injured reserve list.
The Avalanche also announced today that the club has placed defenseman Kyle Cumiskey (foot) on IR (retroactive to Nov. 23) and placed defenseman Tom Preissing on waivers.
Coyotes Loan Viktor Tikhonov To KHL
Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have loaned forward Viktor Tikhonov to KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) for the remainder of the 2009-10 season.
Tikhonov appeared in 18 games for the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) this season collecting 2-6-8 and 12 penalty minutes.
Naslund Joins Forsberg On Team Mondo
Markus Naslund came out of retirement to play with childhood friend Peter Forsberg for hometown team Modo on Saturday, getting an assist in a 4-1 win over Rogle in the Swedish league, according to an Associated Press report.
Columbus Recalls Alex Picard From Syracuse
The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Alexandre Picard from the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus' American Hockey League affiliate, General Manager Scott Howson announced Friday.
Picard, 24, has tallied 8-7-15 with 26 penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 19 games with Syracuse this season, leading the club in goals and points. Columbus? first pick, eighth overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, he has registered 0-2-2 and 48 penalty minutes in 58 career NHL games.
Lightning Send Smaby To Norfolk For Conditioning Assignment
The Lightning have sent defenseman Matt Smaby to the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL on a conditioning assignment, Executive Vice President and GM Brian Lawton announced.
Smaby has played in 57 career NHL games, all with Tampa Bay, although he has not played this season. Smaby has recorded four assists and averaged 17:22 in ice time during his career. He has played in 154 AHL games with the Norfolk Admirals and Springfield Falcons, recording five goals and 28 points with 141 penalty minutes.
Avs Recall Durno, Fahey; Place Foote On IR
The Avalanche announced today that the team has recalled forward Chris Durno and defenseman Brian Fahey from the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL.
Durno is being recalled for the third time this season. He has played in five games with Colorado this year, tallying one assist.
Fahey was acquired from the Rangers this past July. He has appeared in all 20 games with Lake Erie this season, recording five goals and one assist.
The Avalanche also announced today that defenseman Adam Foote has been placed on the injured reserve list (retroactive to Nov. 17).
On Thursday, the Avalanche reassigned forward T.J. Hensick to Lake Erie.
Jackets Send Sestito To AHL Syracuse
The Blue Jackets have assigned left wing Tom Sestito to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? AHL, GM Scott Howson announced today.
Sestito appeared in one game for the Blue Jackets against the Edmonton Oilers on November 16 and registered five penalty minutes in the game. He has collected five goals and three assists for eight points and 64 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Crunch this season.
